The Antigo Public Library can assist you with your genealogical research. Whether you are looking for local newspaper microfilm, city directory coverage, federal census data for Langlade County, or printed material regarding local or state history, we may well have what you're looking for.

Listed below are some of the resources available to you at APL.

Federal Census

The Federal Census can provide valuable information for the genealogical researcher. For information on what type of data is provided on different federal census records see Census Records from the National Archives. The 1890 census for most of the United States, including Wisconsin, is not available due to a fire that destroyed most of the records.

The Antigo Public Library has the following federal Census Records for Langlade County:

  • 1880 Langlade County  includes Lafayette, Lincoln, & Marathon counties
  • 1900 Langlade County  includes  Lafayette, & Lincoln counties
  • 1910 Langlade County  includes, Lincoln, & Manitowoc counties
  • 1920 Langlade County  includes, Lafayette, & Lincoln counties
  • 1930 Langlade County  includes, Lincoln, part of Manitowoc counties

The following census indexes are also available:

  • 1850 Population Schedules: Wisconsin for the following counties:  Adams, Brown Claumet, Chippewa, Columbia, Crawford, Kenosha, Lafayette, La Pointe, Manitowoc, Marathon, Marquette, Washington, Waukesha, Winnebago.
  • 1860 Monroe, Oconto, Outagamie, Sauk, Shawano
  • 1870  Oconto, Outagamie, Sauk, Shawano
  • 1890 Special Schedules of 1890 Census,  Enumerating Union Veterans & Widows of Union Vets for 16 Counties in Wisconsin

Wisconsin State Census

Vital Records

The following state census data is available:

  • 1855 State-wide
  • 1875 Counties of Adams, Eau Claire, Kenosha, Milwaukee, St. Crouix, & Wood
  • 1885 Counties of Iowa, Lincoln
  • 1895 Counties of Lafayette & Monroe
  • 1905 Counties of Langlade & Manitowoc

Because of the potential for identify theft, we can no longer retain paper copies of the death and marriage indexes.

Local birth, death, and marriage records are only available through the Langlade County Register of Deeds.

School Assembly

Other Local Resources

Langlade Historical Society is a terrific source of local history, artifacts, cemeteries, high school graduates and teachers, military veterans from the Civil War through the Korean War, etc. Langlade County Register of Deeds is your best source for vital records like birth, death and marriage certificates. You can apply online for copies and pay by credit card.
Langlade County Genealogical Society has an excellent listing of cemeteries in the county, by city and township location. Langlade County Genealogical Research Group has several specialty items like township history, Czech research, and some recollections from the Antigo Daily Journal.
Langlade County Genealogy Forum is a site where you can post and respond to genealogy queries. Langlade County, Wisconsin USGenWeb Project is a voluntary site developed with transcribed materials.
   

Wisconsin and Web Resources

   
Cyndi's List is a categorized & cross-referenced index to genealogical resources on the Internet. Ellis Island a site where you can search Ellis Island records online, view passenger lists and ship images and find transcripts of immigrant stories.
Family Search has the largest collection of free family history, family tree, and genealogy records in the world. In addition, it offers information on getting started, research guides and downloadable forms and charts. Wisconsin Genealogical Research Service at the Wisconsin Historical Society provides fee-based genealogical research for pre-1907 birth, death, and marriage records, plus more.
Wisconsin Historical Society has significant archives including countless images, the WI genealogy index, etc. WI Roots.org is a site that offers biographies online, links to original field notes and plat maps from the Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records, scanned images of 1901 county maps, etc.
