A new spring challenge will begin today Friday, March 20th. Be sure to stop in and pick up a spring reading challenge or bingo sheet between March 20th – May 22nd. There is something for everyone. Return completed form(s) to the library to enter the spring prize drawing for readers. If you have been in the library lately you may have noticed we have a brand new book vending machine as a prize option instead of picking a book off a cart.
In the spring of 2025 I took a course on school library and media services. As part of the coursework I had to do an on-site interview with a school librarian from another district. I went and visited the Edna Ferber Elementary school in Appleton. The school librarian happened to be a native of Antigo and a graduate of Antigo High School. She had a wonderfully designed elementary school library that included a book vending machine for reading incentives. Most kids (and some adults) choose books based on the cover and do better with fewer selections to choose from than more. Getting something out of a vending machine is far more fun that picking something off a cart. The more our kids read the better for everyone in our community. Using some of the funds donated by Charlie and Betty Fogeltanz the library purchased a book vending machine. No one will be left out. The top shelf has adult fiction and non-fiction along with some DVDs. Stop in today and pick up a reading log or a reading bingo. Complete them. Return them. Get a coin for the vending machine to choose your own book prize to take home.
